Our History

A New Beginning

As 2015 came to a close, the Holy Spirit began to speak to our leadership about recovering our heritage as a church family and reconnecting, in the Spirit, with the generations that have gone before us who had such a burning heart and vision for revival and great awakening to come upon our city, our nation, and the world.  In April of 2016, we officially renamed our Church to Ocean City Church.  We believe God has been working from generation to generation to position us to be on the forefront of the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit promised in the scripture for the later days of this age.  "I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh", Acts 2:17b.  For us, Ocean City Church is a declaration that we are embracing our heritage and the call of God to be a people who burn with revival and passion for Jesus Christ to be our all in all.  We have a vision to see our entire city saved and the whole panhandle of Florida aflame with the fire of Revival.

In 1954, what is today Family of Faith Community Church began as a mission church of the First Baptist Church of Holt, FL. The church first met in a small building located on the Beach Drive side of the church’s property, which now serves as the church office building. Pastor Jim Quigley came from Holt and held the first Sunday service. People from all around the Ocean City-Wright area came and after just two meetings the congregation outgrew the little building where the meetings were held. In a few months the congregation organized as Ocean City Baptist Church and called James Quigley to become its pastor.

The church grew during the 50’s and 60’s, baptizing literally hundreds of people each year. In the early 70’s, Ocean City Baptist experienced a great revival, especially among the youth of the day. Young people were being saved and baptized at all times of the day and night.

In June of 1982 the Lord took Pastor Quigley home. In January of 1983, Charles Sansom Jr. was called upon to be the church’s new Senior Pastor. Due to an out-pouring of the Holy Spirit and a new emphasis upon learning to function in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the church found itself outside the accepted doctrinal and functional standards of the Baptist denomination. Submitting to the direction in which God was leading the church family, Ocean City Church left the Baptist fold and later changed its name to Family of Faith Community Church.

Despite the many changes it’s undergone over it’s half-century of existence, Family of Faith Community Church maintains a dedicated passion to win souls, to build up the body of Christ through preaching and teaching the Word of God, and to be a church to the city and surrounding community by building people, families, and leaders for the Lord.
