History

Ocean City Church was founded by Pastor James M. Quigley as a mission church from the First Baptist Church in Holt, Florida. It was constituted as the First Baptist Church of Ocean City in June, 1954. In those early days, the Ocean City/Wright area was only just beginning to be developed. The church began to grow immediately, touching the hearts and lives of multitudes through the anointed preaching of the Gospel and teaching of God’s Word. Pastor Quigley continued to lead this flock of committed followers of Jesus until the Lord saw fit to call him home in June of 1982.

Six months later, God called and set Pastor Charles Sansom, Jr. as the senior pastor of His flock here. In the early 1990s, the Lord led Pastor Charles and this congregation to depart from its Baptist roots to become more aligned and accountable to what He was directing locally. This began a commitment to, and even a partnership with, the community around the church creating relationships with other bodies of believers. Pastor Charles went to be with Jesus in September of 2018.

Out of his apostolic heart, Pastor Charles had already been preparing a team of leaders. Immediately, Pastor Jeff Yates was set as the third lead pastor of the then-64-year history of the church, charged with continuing the mission. With great momentum even through a world-changing pandemic, Ocean City Church endures to spread the hope of the Gospel of Jesus to the community while striving to facilitate connections with local ministries. Pastor Jeff’s heart reflects a passion to see restoration within those “church-hurt” while facilitating a genuine culture of family and passionate worship.
